Lesson 0206: Safe Houses
This particular lesson was about exploring open RP areas that are less-traveled on our server. Of course, as one of the smaller RP servers, almost all RP areas are 'less-traveled', but there's always the option to start at somewhere obvious (the Slopes) and to carefully take it somewhere less obvious. Since the advent of strongholds, most serious RPers have internalized and limited themselves to stronghold-based RP entirely. I think that's a shame on a smaller server like ours. Not that I don't understand why, of course, but without public RP you're limited to using out-of-game or mechanical means to find good networking. Just my opinion, but it takes some of the fun out of it.
Anyway, this didn't exactly pan out the way I hoped on the Pub side, because I accidentally finished out a quest that had a GREAT location for this particular lecture. Keep an eye out for this instances, and don't always finish them out if you've already completed your class's storyline!
Our sixth lecure of the second semester continued with our infiltration theme, this time in regards to identifying safe houses. As with our last lecture, I was happy to observe a fair amount of guests joining us, even a few returning attendees. As such, at the end of class, I gave them access to a perk I'd normally reserve for official CIA members only.
When conducting covert operations, it may become prudent to meet a contact in a more secure location than you normally operate in. Sometimes, we have ready access to such a facility, and sometimes we have to create such a location with the limited options available. I began the lecture by pointing out the perfect sort of establishment for such improvised safehouses: local watering holes. Where else?
At first we explored a few of the lesser-known cantinas around the Promenade. While the secrecy at a well-known establishment such as the Slippery Slopes is practically nonexistent, a cantinas off the beaten path can provide what I'll label a light level of security. After exploring these fairly open locations, I divided the group based on whether or not they had brought their Imperial or Republic credentials on-hand. Take my word for it, a good forgery is well worth the investment, no matter how many holo-hoops you have to jump through to finally acquire one.
Each group was given two locations to explore and analyze before our final rendezvous location. I won't go into details about where exactly each group went, or where we wound up ultimately, arguably one of the most secure locations I know of. That information, my friends, is classified.
