Lesson 0104: Active Information Gathering
Okay, so this RP didn’t go at all like I planned it to. There were some connection issues, poor planning, and I might’ve had one or two glasses of wine too many. My bad! We also had an activity planned for the end of this lesson, but that’ll have to be pushed back as well. All that being said, it was originally my plan to discuss the Guild’s stance on ‘private RP’. If that’s too subtle for you, when I say ‘private RP’ I mean ERP. If that’s still not clear, Google it.
Officially speaking, ERP is:
Unofficially speaking, what you do in private chat is your business and people will be people. The Guild will not, however, tolerate harassment of any kind, including but not limited to sexual harassment.
Do NOT:
There is always a way to avoid making these unwanted scenes. If you think such an interaction would help your character development but are uncomfortable with explicit convent, I recommend “the screen fades to black” or “the curtains close". Leaving it up to the imagination is a perfectly acceptable plot device.
Good evening, class. Last week, as some of you know, we discussed Passive Information Gathering. This week we’ll talk about something I’m sure most of you are much better versed in: Active Information Gathering. Where some agents gather their intel simply by staying hidden and listening, many like to take the direct approach. If done cautiously, often the answers to the questions we seek can be obtained simply by walking up to someone and asking. One must understand, however, that this usually draws a great amount of attention to yourself.
Some examples mentioned in class included slicing databases and infiltrating facilities or strongholds. While these are certainly acceptable means of Active Information Gathering, they may draw back unwanted repercussions. As this academy must maintain its neutrality we must be careful not to flagrantly violate any planetary or galactic laws. Instead, I suggest, you obtain your information via a very dynamic tool: people.
Though some of you may prefer getting straight to the Active part, I recommend at least a little bit of Passive Information Gathering before you choose to engage your subject. Familiarize yourself with your subject. Find out what pleases him, what makes him angry, who she enjoys to be around and what gets her attention. Don’t be afraid to utilize your natural assets to your advantage, if you catch my drift—however, I urge you to be responsible in doing so.
That will be all for today’s lecture. Class dismissed. Feel free to join me in the lounge for some refreshments.

Officially speaking, ERP is:
- Against the Terms of Service outlined by SWTOR
- Illegal, depending on your location and the relative ages of the participants.
Unofficially speaking, what you do in private chat is your business and people will be people. The Guild will not, however, tolerate harassment of any kind, including but not limited to sexual harassment.
Do NOT:
- Engage in or talk about ERP in Guild Chat, Public Chat, or any stronghold that isn’t yours without the owner’s permission
- Discuss private interactions between you and another person without said person’s explicit permission
- Pressure somebody into explicit roleplay or RP they are not comfortable with, ever.
There is always a way to avoid making these unwanted scenes. If you think such an interaction would help your character development but are uncomfortable with explicit convent, I recommend “the screen fades to black” or “the curtains close".
