Lesson 0203: Beginner-Level Encryption
I swear, when I made this guild and came up with this idea, it was never, NEVER my intention to make anyone actually learn anything, or do any sort of math. I’m still pretty opposed to the idea, in fact, but it made for an interesting RP lesson. Also it turns out some people (cough cough Thayta cough cough) are born naturals when it comes to this kinda thing.
Nope, still not going to give away our encryption method here. Some things you just have to be there for. Don’t worry, snoopers, it’s insanely easy to decrypt once you get ahold of it. Til next time!
For the third lecture of our second semester, we’ll discuss the issue of conducting communications while under deep cover. While every first-year cadet knows intuitively the value in avoiding leaving a data trail, sometimes communications simply must be made. Mission parameters change, and a well-trained agent must be able to respond dynamically. This evening, we’ll learn about how to shield your communications by the use of encryption.
Utilizing today’s technology most of you can encrypt and decrypt messages with a few keystrokes on a datapad. Much of what we teach here at this institution, however, is about getting back to basics. After all, you may not always have access to a datapad in the field, or the security systems you slice may have decryption routines that can foil even the newest vetted encryption algorithms. For these and other reasons it’s important to be able to mask messages mentally.
Tonight I’ll be going over one of the galaxy’s simplest, oldest, yet most effective encryption methods, known commonly as the Coruscanti Cipher. Rumor has it this method has been in use dating back to the days of the Zhell-Taung War, though whether it was originally utilized by the Battalions of Zhell or by Dha Werda Verda has been the subject of much debate among historians over the years. The details of this evening’s lecture will not be available on our holonet site. After all…we don’t want to give out everything for free.
